Dr. Indru Punwani, DDS, MSD, serves as Professor Emeritus of Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Illinois Chicago College of Dentistry. He earned his DDS from the University of Bombay, completed a Master of Dental Science in an Advanced Program in Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Pittsburgh, and trained as a Fellow at both Guggenheim Dental Clinic and Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. He also served as Assistant Professor of Pedodontics at the University of Bergen in Norway. Dr. Punwani led UIC's Pediatric Dentistry Department from 1981 to 2013 and directed its residency program across three separate tenures. His research in oral disease prevention and health behaviors in children has produced more than 200 publications, including peer-reviewed papers and book chapters that have shaped the field. That research background is not a credential on a wall. It shapes how Dr. Punwani evaluates each child, what interventions he recommends, and why he places prevention at the foundation of pediatric dental care. His clinical focus has long included children from underserved communities, which deepens both his diagnostic range and his understanding of the systemic factors that affect a child's oral health.
