He earned a double major in Biology and Chemistry from the University of Illinois before completing his DDS at Marquette University. As a U.S. Naval Officer, he led a dental team in Sardinia, Italy that was routinely voted best clinic in the European theater, then completed advanced endodontic microsurgery training at Great Lakes Naval Base. In 1995, he earned his Master of Science in Endodontics from Northwestern University, graduating top of his class, and went on to teach at Northwestern Dental School.
