Dr. Silvia M. Villalobos Sancho, DDS, MS, is a board-certified Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and Dental Implant Surgery and Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Periodontics at the University of Illinois Chicago College of Dentistry. She completed her specialty training and a Master of Science in Oral Biology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where her thesis research on the connection between antidepressants and inflammatory cytokines in chronic periodontitis earned 2nd place in the Pennel Competition at the Southern Academy of Periodontology (2019) and a Rising Star Award from the American Academy of Periodontology (2020). Before her residency, Dr. Villalobos practiced general dentistry at the National Geriatric Hospital in Costa Rica, building direct experience with how aging and systemic conditions affect oral health. She organized international outreach to deliver dental care to indigenous communities in Costa Rica during her residency. Fluent in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, she brings both research-level rigor and broad human experience to every patient encounter.
