Dr. Victor Escobar holds both a DDS and a PhD in Medical Genetics from Indiana University, a combination found in very few oral and maxillofacial surgeons practicing today. During his research career, he co-discovered Escobar Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder affecting craniofacial development. That discovery redirected his path: he pursued clinical surgery specifically to treat patients with craniofacial defects rather than study them from a distance. He completed a general practice residency at Montefiore Medical Center, an oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at Albert Einstein School of Medicine, and a fellowship in facial cosmetic surgery at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas. He is also a Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Anesthesiology, a board-level credential in anesthesia care held by a small fraction of practicing oral surgeons.
